Computer Development From Time To Time

Computers included in the technology developed by Charles Babbage, and technology are all means to provide goods needed for the survival and comfort of human life, and Computers are the result of technological advancements that function as tools for typing, drawing, editing images or photos, making animations, and other benefits.


      The word computer comes from Greek "Computare" which means counting or combining together. In general, computers can be interpreted as a set of electronic devices that work automatically, integrated, and coordinated. The computer also consists of a set of devices and instructions or programs and instructions or programs that can not be separated from each other, either delivered by the device itself or with instructions or programs.

      All they want is a unit that is mutually cooperative and interdependent, and We can conclude that a computer is an electronic device that can receive input, process input, provide information, use a program stored in computer memory, can store programs and results of processing, and work automatically
Historically, computers can be grouped into 5 generations, namely:

  1. FIRST GENERATION COMPUTER (1946 – 1959) Vacuum Tube
  2. Computers in the first generation of electronic components are made of HAMPA TUBE and Computer programs are made in machine language. Computers in the first generation have the following properties: large size and takes place, requires a lot of cooling, slow processing, small data storing capacity.
  3. SECOND GENERATION COMPUTER (1959-1964) Transistor
  4. The size is smaller, does not release much heat, has magnetic tape and magnetic disk as a place to store data, uses Time Sharing that allows multiple users to do it together, the process is faster, and the data storage capacity is greater.
  5. THIRD GENERATION COMPUTER (1964-1970 ) Integrated Circuit
  6. The size is smaller than the previous generation, getting to know multi programing, the integration between software and hardware in the OS, the process is very fast, the capacity to store data is greater, has implemented multi processing, can communicate with other equipment.
  7. FOURTH GENERATION COMPUTER (1979-present) Microprocessor
  8. the size is relatively smaller, there is integration between software and hardware, the process is very fast, the data storage capacity is far greater than the previous generation, it has implemented the concept of multi processing, and is familiar with Database Management (DBMS).
  9. FIFTH GENERATION COMPUTER (until now and still happening) Artificial Intelligence
  10. can translate from one language to another language, can make logical considerations, can hear the command sentence that is said and carry it out.
